Most of Henan, Anyang included speaks dialects of Mandarin in northern and southwestern China which has been categorized as Zhongyuan Mandarin. Henan opera (yuju) is Anyang's local form of Chinese opera; famous in the rest of China. Henan Quju and Henan Yuediao are also important opera forms. Yuju was born in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In the beginning, they were mainly song arias and actors did wear not makeup which made it very popular among the ordinary masses and its popularity allowed this genre to develop quickly. There are four forms of the Yuju opera: Xiangfu, Yudong, Yuxi, and Shahe. Yudong and Yuxi are the main forms, representing comedy and tragedy respectively. Other traditional art forms include: Junci, a style of porcelain known for its unpredictable color patterns, Jade carvings of Zhengping, and Laoyang's Tangsancai, which are earthenware figurines made in the traditional method of the Tang Dynasty.
The Grand Taihang Canyon which is famous for its spectacular peaks, gorges, cliffs, and waterfalls and provides some of the best natural scenery in China.
