The recorded history of Ankang dates back to more than 3000 years and the cultural history can be dated back to the stone ages. The ancient tribes that occupied this area were conquered by the Chu Kingdom in the period 770 BC – 476 BC. It was contested by the Chu and Qin Kingdoms 476 BC – 221 BC. The Ankang County was established in the first year of the Taikang Jin Dynasty in 280 AD. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Ankang Office of the Shaanxi Province People’s Government was created in 1950 which grew to become the Ankang Area Civic Administration in 1979. In 2001, Ankang Area became Ankang City with city-level administration.
Many parts of Ankang serve as a nice contrast to the typical hustle and bustle of many Chinese cities. This place has a very natural feel, bringing you to a place with lots of green and blue, the sound of rivers and cool mountain breezes. Its remote location will allow you to experience a more traditional China with very little Western influence.
